A hidden gem in the town
Yes, Mae Rong Son Restaurant; we did not spell it wrong. Thais pronounce “Rong” but the northern Thai accent is toned higher at “Hong”. Let’s try to learn the Thai accent.

This is a Thai restaurant with an extensive menu of dishes. It also has special meals, and daily options are available. Located behind Wat Jong Kham, just one street up from the lake, on the circle road of temples.
To make sure, please see the map below. It is very close to accommodation around Jong Kham Lake, and you can go by walking.

My favorite lunch spots
The Mae Rong Son restaurant, a hidden gem in town, was one of my favorite lunch spots. Relaxing and sitting in the garden as if it were a home, with flowers and orchids.
I ate there recently with my friend, Pla Tu (her name comes from a kind of “fish” in Thai), and as always, we ordered more food than we could possibly eat.

We sit at a table that has been decorated with a huge jar. Then, to construct a dining table, set a glass plate on top. It’s fashionable yet inconvenient. We just tried it once.
Thais usually order spicy and non-spicy dishes to balance them out, therefore causing too many orders. You can order less spicy dishes if you’re not used to real Thai food.

It is an awesome place to have lunch at cheap prices you’d never find in a big city. The majority of customers are officers who work in the town, with tourists being the minority.
This is a family-owned and operated business that prides itself on its friendly service. If you’re adventurous and not a picky eater, you may just find this restaurant one of your favorite Thai eating experiences.
